I watched the movie Coraline last night. Loved the animation and the story line was great but the movie itself turned pretty creepy. I felt Coraline's pain as she tried to adjust to her new surroundings after a move. Her goofy writer-parents are too busy to pay attention to her and her real mom is a horrible grump. As Coraline, acting on the suggestion of her father, explores their new apartment, she discovers a small door hidden behind the wall paper. She crawls through a secret passage way to discover a parallel universe, with an alternate home and "other mother and other father." But then, the story gets down right sinister. It was like Tim Burton took over. These kinder parents have buttons for eyes instead of real eyes. And the creep factor escalates to where "good mom" turns into skeletal killer spider mom who wants Coraline's eyes. Yikes. I wonder how many kids had nightmares from this...http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0327597/. Still I enjoyed the movie, a bit like the kid who is told not to touch the hot stove but touches it anyway.

Hi Teena,
ReplyDeleteI followed a link from a link, from a link, from a link, (I think you get it) and wound up here on your artful blog. I saw a piece of your mixed media work on a Christian Artist site and loved it. I too am a mixed-media artist who love to upcycle and incorporate found or discarded objects into my work. I am fairly new to the mixed-media arena, dabbling it for the past few years and am still trying to feel out my niche in the arena of this art form. I have thoroughly enjoyed reading through your blog and its interesting posts. Thank you for sharing your creative vision.
Blessings,
Sandy
